In recent months, HM Treasury and the FCA have started setting out a clear framework for a new regulatory regime for the financial markets which sweeps away many of the compromises of the EU regulations and creates new opportunities for the UK markets to thrive. City & Financial Global’s Future of UK Financial Services Regulation Summit, taking place on 8th February 2022, is a unique forum for senior management in financial institutions to assess the impact of the new regime and position their organisation to take advantage of the opportunities it presents.
The summit follows the success of a series of events City & Financial has run over the last three or four years looking at the effect of onshoring the MiFID and MiFIR regimes into UK law and other post-Brexit measures. One of the central issues is, of course, the Treasury’s Wholesale Markets Review. However, the Review is part of a wider overhaul of financial services regulation including the FCA’s various consultations on the Investment Funds Prudential Review, the Listing Regime Review in March 2021 and the Treasury’s consultation on the UK Prospectus Regime in July 2021.
Other themes to be covered include those that the Treasury has identified as being important for the City as it seeks to build on its status as a leading financial centre. These include facilitating the recruitment and retention of highly-skilled workers from the EU; maintaining London’s dominant position in fintech, payments and crypto assets; becoming the global leader in green finance; and moving forward with UK-US financial services trade liberalisation.
